Ioannis Georgoulas is an Independent Non-Executive Director with extensive boardlevel experience across banking, investment firms, payment institutions, and financial regulation in Europe. He brings a strong track record in corporate governance, risk oversight, and regulatory engagement, with particular expertise in digital banking, fintech, and sustainable finance. He currently sits on the boards of several regulated financial institutions, including Societé Generale Bank Cyprus, where he contributes to the oversight of governance, risk, and compliance within an international banking group. In addition, he serves as Non-Executive Chairman of EcommBX Investments Ltd, Non-Executive Director of EcommBX Ltd, and as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of investment firms, electronic money institutions, and payment institutions. In these roles, he supports strategic development, regulatory alignment, and operational resilience. Ioannis previously served as a Board Member of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), the national financial regulator, where he played a key role in the implementation of MiFID II and AML directives, contributed to prudential assessments of boards in banking institutions, and chaired the Nomination Committee. During his tenure, he supported the enhancement of risk-based supervision frameworks and the establishment of internal audit and policy functions. He has founded several companies in the fields of consulting and technology, with operations in Europe and the United States, representing and advising international organisations on strategy, market development, and country risk. Ioannis is a Certified Director from INSEAD’s International Directors Banking Programme and a Certified Professional Banker with the Chartered Banker Institute, where he also holds a certification in Green and Sustainable Finance. He holds an MBA and degrees in businesw information systems and computer science, and has completed further certifications in advanced computer systems and web security. He is Chairman of the Association of Cyprus Electronic Money and Payment Institutions and a member of the Board of AmCham Cyprus. He is also an active investor in technology and AI-focused ventures. Ioannis is fluent in English and Greek and holds Cypriot and Greek nationality.
