Makis Keravnos was appointed Minister of Finance on 1 March 2023. He was born in Larnaca and raised in Nicosia. He is married to Niki and has three children. He studied Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in Development Economics and Industrial Relations. He also received further training in areas related to new technologies and human resource development. He worked in senior management positions in major companies in Cyprus and abroad. From 1983 to 2003, he served at the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus, working in the Training and Development Directorate and in the Research and Planning Directorate as a Senior Officer. In March 2003, he was appointed Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, and in May 2004 he was appointed Minister of Finance, serving in that role until the end of 2005. In September 2005, he assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Bank, where he served until September 2014. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of HellenicAlico Life Insurance. He was a founding member and elected President of the Pancyprian Association of Economists. Since 2015, he has been active as an independent consultant on financial matters, management, strategic planning, and business development. He has delivered lectures at universities in Cyprus, at the University of Nicosia Centre for European and International Affairs, and at international conferences. He has published dozens of articles in academic journals and newspapers. From October 2018 until February 2023, he served as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus.
